Zimbabwe vs New Zealand: Match Preview
The first Test match results have pretty much decided the future of the series. New Zealand still stands as the favorite to seal the series. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe is trying hard on the pitch, but New Zealand continues to overpower them with its squad strength.
Henry Dominates, Williams and Muzarambani Stand Out for Zimbabwe
Matt Henry was the best player for the visitors, claiming a 6-wicket haul in the first innings. In the second innings, he took another three wickets and was awarded Player of the Match.
Zimbabwe's one positive takeaway was Sean Williams once again leading the run chart for the hosts. With the ball, Blessing Muzarabani shone in the first innings. Other than these two, the rest fell to pace in the first innings and to spin in the second. Their batting failed to complement the bowling attack, which ultimately led to defeat.
Squad Changes Ahead as Santner Steps Up to Lead
For New Zealand, Devon Conway and Daryl Mitchell stood out with the bat, well supported by the bowlers. Skipper Mitchell Santner shone with the ball alongside Matt Henry and William O’Rourke.
Coming into this Test, New Zealand is expected to stick with a similar lineup. However, skipper Tom Latham has been ruled out of the series, so Santner will lead the team at the toss. William O’Rourke is also out of the Tests, and Ben Lister has replaced him in the squad.
Zimbabwe, on the other hand, is expected to tweak its batting lineup but continue with the same bowling attack — hoping for a turnaround.
