England women's all-rounder Nat Sciver-Brunt has been named the new captain of the side across formats. The England Cricket Board (ECB) confirmed the development via a statement on Tuesday, April 28.
Former skipper Heather Knight was asked to step down after a phase of poor cricket from the England team under her. England failed to qualify for the knockout stages of the T20 World Cup under her. The side also lost the Ashes series under her leadership as well.
Meanwhile, Brunt succeeds her at a point where she is going through a good run of form. She recently played a big part in the Mumbai Indians women helping them to win their second WPL title.

Nat Sciver-Brunt is a popular face in English cricket and someone who has proven her credentials across formats since her international debut in 2013. She was named the PCA Player of the Year twice - in 2017 and 2022—and won the ICC Women's Cricketer of the Year twice too - for 2022 and 2023.
Currently, she is third on the list of batters in the ICC Women's rankings. She was a part of the side that won the 2017 Women's World Cup under Heather Knight's leadership.
"I'm really proud to take on the role of captain of the England Women's team and it's an honour to have been asked by Charlotte, someone I've always looked up to," Sciver-Brunt said of the appointment. "Ever since I made my England debut back in 2013, all I have wanted to do is help the team in every way that I can. I will try my best to lead this team to success, whilst empowering them to be the best version of themselves.
"We have a really talented group, and we have a group that's united. It's a team I believe in and a team that can have a lot of success together. It's hugely exciting to be working with Charlotte having had the pleasure of working with her in the last three years at Mumbai Indians. Her love of cricket and passion for the England Women's team is inspiring and I'm excited to see where this partnership leads us," she added.
