Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) scored 204 runs in the first innings of the 48th match of the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) against Delhi Capitals (DC) at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi on April 29.
KKR got off to an electrifying start, with openers Rahmanullah Gurbaz (26 runs off 12 balls) and Sunil Narine (27 runs off 16 balls) attacking DC’s bowlers early. By the third over, KKR were 48/1. Gurbaz smashed two boundaries of Mitchell Starc in the first over, while Narine took inspiration from his partner and hit a four and a six off Dushmantha Chameera in the second over.
After smacking Starc all over the park, hammering the Aussie quick for two fours and a six, Gurbaz departed back to the dressing room as the speedster responded well with a yorker that saw the Afghan batter nicking the ball to the wicket-keeper.
KKR’s captain Ajinkya Rahane (26 runs off 14 balls) marched on his merry way, taking the attack to Starc and Mukesh Kumar with a flurry of boundaries. KKR scored 79 runs the powerplay for the loss of one wicket.
While the run-rate did not drop, KKR lost three quick wickets. Vipraj Nigam dismissed Narine in the seventh over. DC’s captain Axar Patel sent Rahane and Venkatesh Iyer (7 runs off 5 balls) packing as KKR were reduced to 113/4 from 85/1.

After consolidating the ship, Rinku Singh (36 runs off 25 balls) teed off in the 15th over off Kuldeep Yadav, who conceded two fours and a six at the hands of the southpaw.
Angkrish Raghuvanshi (44 runs off 32 balls), who held onto one end, got deceived by a leg-cutter by Chameera. He holed out at the deep cover point region.
DC took a gamble by bowling Vipraj in the 18th over. The leg-spinner did not disappoint and showed the exit door to Rinku, who decided to take him on and ended up giving a catch to the long-on fielder.
14 runs came off the 19th over bowled by Chameera, courtesy of Andre Russell's (17 runs off 9 balls) two boundaries. Starc was smashed for a huge maximum by Russell on the first ball of the final over. The pacer made a comeback and dismissed Rovman Powell (5 runs off 5 balls), who was adjudged LBW.
Starc bagged another wicket. Anukul Roy (0 run off 1 ball) flicked the ball that was sailing over the boundary. Chameera grabbed a stunner at the backward square-leg region, making an astonishing dive to his left. Russell too got run-out at the striker's end, trying to sneak in a single.
KKR eventually finished at 204 runs for the loss of nine wickets in their 20 overs.
