Rajasthan Royals, led by Sanju Samson are currently playing against Punjab Kings at the Mullanpur stadium in Chandigarh. PBKS won the toss and asked Royals to bat first.
The Royals are heading into this match after winning their first match against Chennai Super Kings after losing their first two games. They are desperate to win this match against PBKS.
Sanju Samson is back as the skipper for the Royals and his presence at the crease has brought the best out of Yashasvi Jaiswal as well. The two have been batted cautiously and have tried to attack the spinners as well along with the pacers.
The PBKS bowlers have been at the receiving end of very good batting from the likes of Samson and Jaiswal. Yuzvendra Chahal especially has gone for 19 runs in his first two overs. The two batters have negated the early seam and swing and the early threat from the pacers as well.
Samson, Jaiswal Dominate Powerplay
Sanju Samson (34 runs off 24 balls) and Yashasvi Jaiswal (44 runs off 36 balls) have added an unbeaten 80-run stand and the duo did not look in any trouble whatsoever. Both have batted with a sense of calm as well. Jaiswal needs to be given credited for letting go off his aggressive attitude early on and understanding the pace and bounce of the wicket.
Punjab Kings are back at Mullanpur where they have won just one game since IPL 2024. This good start by the RR openers will certainly provide a great platform for the middle and the lower-order to post a massive total. This is generally a high-scoring venue and the Royals are slowly getting there.
Earlier in the match, Samson was back as the Rajasthan Royals skipper in this match after playing the first two games as a pure batter. He was given the clearance by BCCI COE to keep wickets for the remainder of the tournament.
