IPL 2025 - Jasprit Bumrah’s Return Bolsters Mumbai Indians Ahead of RCB Showdown

Mumbai Indians (MI) received a massive lift as ace fast-bowler Jasprit Bumrah joined the team on Sunday, just in time for their blockbuster Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) clash against Royal Challengers Bengaluru (RCB) scheduled on April 7 at the Wankhede Stadium.

The return of the pace maestro offers a glimmer of hope to the five-time IPL champions, who have endured a tumultuous start to their campaign, losing three of their four games.

Bumrah had been out of action since injuring his back during the fifth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy 2024-25 in Sydney earlier this year. The setback ruled him out of the Champions Trophy 2025 and the opening fixtures of MI’s season, leaving the team’s bowling attack noticeably depleted.

The 31-year-old underwent a rigorous recovery program at the BCCI’s Centre of Excellence (CoE) in Bengaluru, focusing on regaining full fitness under expert medical guidance. Cleared to return by the BCCI’s medical panel, Bumrah arrived in Mumbai to rejoin MI's squad, igniting enthusiasm among supporters and optimism within the camp.

MI announced his return on X with a video post that was captioned, “READY TO ROAR.”

Jasprit Bumrah's Participation Doubtful for IPL 2025 Clash vs RCB

Though his participation against RCB remains uncertain due to the cautious approach following his lengthy rehabilitation. ESPNcricinfo had earlier reported that the speedster will miss Mumbai's upcoming match against RCB.

With a packed IPL schedule and an upcoming five-Test tour of England looming, MI’s management may prioritize his long-term fitness over an immediate return to the playing 11.

Still, Bumrah’s mere presence is a morale booster for a team eager to reverse its fortunes.

In his absence, MI leaned on Trent Boult and Deepak Chahar to lead the attack with young gun Ashwani Kumar shining in their sole victory against Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Mumbai Indians’ Performance in IPL 2025

Mumbai Indians lost their opening match to Chennai Super Kings (CSK) by four wickets. The franchise faced a 36-run defeat in the following fixture at the hands of Gujarat Titans (GT).

A win against KKR seemed to have brought their campaign back on track. However, Hardik Pandya and Co. against suffered a 12-run defeat, losing to Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in their fourth match of the ongoing season.
