Mumbai Indians are chasing 204 to win against Lucknow Super Giants in match 16 of IPL 2025. Without Rohit Sharma, the side has already lost two wickets in the big run-chase.
None of the teams have chased over 200 in Lucknow in the IPL. MI thus have a challenge on their hands as they are chasing a mammoth target to win.
MI were jolted early in the chase with Akash Deep and Shardul Thakur picking up a wicket each in the first three overs. Akash dismissed Will Jacks (5 runs off 7 balls) in the second over. Thakur then accounted for Ryan Rickelton's wicket (10 runs off five balls) in the third over.
Since then, Suryakumar Yadav (39* off 26 balls) and Naman Dhir (46 runs off 24 balls) have taken the innings forward. They are trying to build a partnership and set a platform for the lower-order in this big run-chase. The duo added 69 off 34 balls before Dhir was dismissed in the first ball of the ninth over. The wicket slowed down the scoring rate with the spinners coming in. Mumbai Indias finished with 101/3 after the first 10 overs with more than 100 runs to get still.
Earlier in the game, fifties from Mitchell Marsh (60 runs off 31 balls) and Aiden Markram (53 runs off 38 balls) helped Lucknow Super Giants post a big total. Ayush Badoni (30 runs off 19 balls) and David Miller (27 runs off 14 balls) played important cameos, helping their team post a score beyond 200. The struggle continued for LSG skipper Rishabh Pant who bagged his third failure of IPL 2025. He was dismissed for just two runs off six balls.
