Gujarat Titans (GT) captain Shubman Gill is confident of playing against Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) on Friday despite suffering a back spasm while batting during the Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) match against Rajasthan Royals (RR).
Gill scored a brisk 84 runs off 50 balls on Monday to help GT post 209 runs for the loss of four wickets, but RR chased it down in just 15.5 overs, led by Vaibhav Suryavanshi’s stunning 35-ball century.
Shubman Gill did not field in the second innings, with Ishant Sharma coming in as an Impact Player and Rashid Khan leading the team. This caused panic among GT’s fans as they started worrying about Gill’s availability for the upcoming games.
However, the skipper himself shared his fitness update, stating that not fielding was only a precautionary measure, as the team physio advised him to not take a chance.
"Felt a little back spasm in my back and we have a game couple of days after this, so the physio didn't want to take a chance," Gill said as quoted in the post-match presser.

Gill also acknowledged RR’s dominance, particularly Suryavanshi’s explosive innings, saying:
"It was his day. His hitting was just tremendous and I think he made full use of his day."
The 14-year-old Suryavanshi became the youngest centurion in T20 cricket. His 35-ball hundred is the fastest by an Indian in IPL history. He smashed 11 sixes in his innings, which is now the joint-most by an Indian in an IPL match.
Despite the eight-wicket loss, GT remains in the playoff race with six wins in nine games. The Titans will face SRH at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on May 2, aiming to bounce back at home.
