Beginnings of Hardik Pandya Cricket Career

Domestic & IPL Debut

Pandya began his cricketing journey with Baroda in 2013 during the 2013-14 Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. His performances helped the team win the tournament during the same season. He also delivered an impressive batting performance against Vidarbha in the same tournament in 2016.

Pandya made his Indian Premier League (IPL) debut for Mumbai Indians starting from the 2015 season. He quickly made a name for himself and over the next few seasons, became a powerhouse all-rounder offering commendable performances with both the bat and the ball in his hand. He stayed at Mumbai until the end of the 2021 season, during which he helped the team win the competition in 2015, 2017, 2019 and 2020. In the 2022 season, he was picked by the newly formed Gujarat Titans and made their captain, which turned out to be an exceptional decision because he led them to the trophy in their inaugural season itself. He again led the team to a second straight final in the 2023 season but he couldn’t win it this time. He returned to Mumbai Indians starting from the 2024 season and he retained his captaincy there as well. He continues to be in Mumbai for the 2025 season as their captain.

International Debut

The all-rounder made his T20I for the national team against Australia in the Adelaide Oval on January 26, 2016. He delivered an impressive debut performance, scoring 37 runs and bagging 2 wickets in the same match. He continued to perform well, but in July of 2018, he clinched 4 wickets and 33 runs in 14 balls to hand India a T20I win against England and it made him the first-ever Indian player to take 4 wickets and score over 30 in the same T20I match, showcasing his versatility for both sides of the game.

Pandya’s ODI debut for India came against New Zealand at the Dharamsala on October 16. 2016. Similar to his T20I debut, his ODI debut also saw him impress with both the bat and the ball. He scored 31 runs and took 3 wickets and he was named the Player of the Match on his ODI debut, becoming only the fourth Indian ever to achieve so in his debut.

Hardik got his Test debut against Sri Lanka on July 26, 2017 against Sri Lanka at Galle, where he scored a half-century in his maiden innings. Against the same opposition, in just his third Test match, Pandya scored a century - his first-ever international century - at Pallekele. He also amassed 26 runs in one over, which was a record at the time for the highest runs scored in one over by an Indian in a Test match.

Hardik Pandya Playing Style & Skillset

Pandya is equally gifted with both the bat and the ball. His style includes aggression, dynamic and fit for modern day cricket. He usually bats in the middle to lower order, with him being reserved as a finisher. He is a right-handed power hitter who thrives under pressure. He is a natural hitter with good focus on timing and technique rather than force, which helps him knock balls into the stadium with his signature flick down the straight. He also relies on his footwork, particularly against spin, but he is more natural against pacers. His explosiveness is exactly what a team needs to rely on during a chase and his calm temperament aids in achieving that target. Sometimes, he can be a bit too aggressive despite the situation not calling for the same, which might lead him into making mistakes, but overall, he is pretty decent with the bat.

Pandya is a right-arm fast-medium seamer who averages around 130-138 km/hr. He isn’t always the go-to pacer, but he can always be utilized when the need arises. He uses different variations, ball lengths and angles to render his opponents vulnerable. He often balls during the middle overs, and sometimes in the death overs as well. He can slow his deliveries and catch his opponents off-guard and can also deliver a short ball every now and then for the same. He is also capable of delivering wide yorkers and slower-ball bouncers. While he might not be the best bowler in his team, he can often act as a wildcard against opponents, helping break partnerships. But also, sometimes he can concede a hefty amount of runs in an over if his variation-based style doesn’t work out. Overall, one might correctly assume that he is deadlier with the bat than the ball, but he is equally talented at both if used correctly.

Injuries, Rehab & Fitness

Pandya’s career hasn’t always been smooth sailing, as he has been the victim of a few injuries which rendered him incapable of action on several occasions. He suffered from a lower back injury during the 2018 Asia Cup which worsened during the 2019 ICC World Cup. For this, he underwent a surgery in London in 2019, but he was out of action for most of the 2020 season.

After his surgery, he has had some shoulder and groin strain issues which often affected his bowling, and he was forced to play as a batsman only in multiple games. He also has had some ankle niggles and issues with his knees during the years 2021-22 and he was unable to ball during the T20 World Cup in 2021. During the 2023 IPL, he was forced to rest for a few games due to a hamstring concern.

Pandya’s surgery redefined his fitness regimen and he focused more on strength training, core stability, and mobility. He also worked in tandem with the National Cricket Academy for his rehabilitation and he had to redo his entire bowling style which would reduce the stress on his body. That’s why, post his surgery, he wasn’t often used as a bowler but he has made a worthy comeback in recent years. He also taught himself to manage stress and pressure at a mental level and conditioned himself to prioritize his health.

Hardik Pandya Net Worth & Earnings

Pandya’s net worth, according to 2025 estimates, sits somewhere around Rs 91–98 crore (around $11–11.5 million). He is the holder of a BCCI Grade A contract where he earns Rs 5 crore annually. For his 2025 IPL salary, it is estimated that he will earn around Rs 16.5 crore. Being associated with multiple renowned brands, as discussed earlier, he earns a significant amount from his brand collaborations as well. He also has diversified business investments including brands like Aretto, Yu Foodlabs, Bidzapp and LenDenClub. Apart from these, his luxurious assets, such as his opulent residences and expansive car collection also add to his overall wealth.
