Bangladesh made a stunning comeback on day one of the second Test match against Zimbabwe in Chattogram as the hosts ended up taking nine wickets. The visitors, who were well placed at one stage to end the day one on top, squandered a golden opportunity to assert complete dominance over Bangladesh. Taijul Islam starred with the ball in hand for the hosts as he ended up taking five wickets.
The left-arm spinner was very difficult to get away from, as he did not give any freebies to Zimbabwe batters. For the visitors, Sean Williams top-scored with a fighting 67 runs. The rest of the batters, barring Nick Welch, were guilty of throwing their wickets away after managing to get decent starts. Opting to bat first after winning the toss, Zimbabwe openers Ben Curran (21 runs) and Brian Bennett (21 runs) started well as they put on a 41-run stand for the first wicket. However, the duo failed to kick on, as both were dismissed in the first session.
Sean Williams and Welch (54 runs) put on 90 runs for the third wicket to stabilize the innings. However, just when the duo were looking set to take the game deep, Williams was out to Nayeem Hasan. That wicket ensured a Zimbabwe collapse and enabled the hosts to end the day one on a bright note.

Zimbabwe fail to assert dominance with bat after winning the toss
Like what Bangladesh did after winning the toss in the first Test - not capitalizing on day one of the pitch—Zimbabwe also repeated the same mistake. On a good batting surface in Chattogram, the visitors' batters missed out on run-scoring opportunities. Bangladesh will look to put in a much-improved performance in the second innings on the second day and aim to take a handy lead.
