Sydney Sixers Trolled fans by claiming Virat Kohli to play in BBL

Australian Big Bash League (BBL) side Sydney Sixers dropped a huge bombshell. The side took to social media to post an update that ace Indian Cricket Team batter Virat Kohli would be joining the side for the next two seasons. But fans were quick to catch up on the act as Sydney Sixers posted the tweet as an April Fools prank on 1st April 2025.

Virat Kohli is a huge name in world cricket, and when it comes to the T20 format, he is in a league of his own. Having played in the Indian Premier League (IPL), he is the highest run-getter in the history of the tournament with 8094 runs to his name.

As for playing in the Big Bash League (BBL), no Indian men's player is allowed as per the rules laid down by the BCCI. Only retired Indian players can take part in the tournament. But coming to Virat Kohli, fans were quite surprised when Sydney Sixers posted the update.

Some fans were so curious that they posted wanting to know the date when Kohli would join the team. But then the Sydney Sixers quickly pointed out it was an April Fools post and they had trolled everyone.

No Indian Men's Player allowed to take part in outside Leagues

"King Kohli! Virat Kohli is officially a Sixer for the next TWO seasons!" was the tweet that the Australian side had posted on X (erstwhile Twitter).

Coming to the matter, the BCCI has laid down very strict rules. No Indian men's player is allowed to take part in other international T20 leagues. The players are only allowed to play in the IPL. They, however, can take part in foreign T20 leagues once they retire from the game or change their nationality. This rule, however, is not applicable to the Indian women's team players.

In IPL 2025, Virat Kohli has had a good start to the league. His side, Royal Challengers Bengaluru has won both their games and is currently the table topper. Kohli slammed an unbeaten knock of 59 runs against KKR in the opening game and managed a modest knock of 31 runs against CSK.
