The Indian selectors are set to meet in a huddle to pick the squad for the upcoming three-match ODI series against Australia A, and notably, the biggest point of discussion will be Rohit Sharma & Virat Kohli's participation in the three List A games. The matches will be played on September 30, October 03, and 05 at the Green Park Stadium in Kanpur.

However, according to reports it is understood that the star duo would not be forced to play these warm-up fixtures, if duo decides that they need some game time before the Down Under tour then only they will play these games. Both players are available for the three-match ODI series as of now, and Rohit is set to lead the ODI team.

"See, it's highly unlikely that they will play the three India A games. No call has been taken on that, and it will not be forced upon them either. Only if they need some game time, you could see them play one or even two games before the Australia ODIs. But nothing has been finalized yet. They are very much fit and available for Australia ODIs," a senior BCCI official tells Times of India.

"Before the selectors decide the India A squad and then India squads for the Australia tour, the Irani Cup squad will be announced, and some selectors are set to watch the Duleep Trophy final in Bengaluru while Agarkar is with the team in Dubai," adds the official.

Virat Kohli & Rohit Sharma eye a roaring comeback against Australia ODI series

Notably, Kohli & Rohit last featured for India in the Champions Trophy 2025 event earlier this year. After that, the duo featured in the IPL 2025 season. However, after that, the duo have not played any form of cricket for over three months. Recently, the batters underwent a routine fitness test. While Rohit underwent his fitness mandate in Bengaluru, Kohli's test was done in London. All the centrally contracted players go through a fitness test, as that is what decides if a player is in the team or not.

With both duo passing the fitness tests, they will be eyeing to make a comeback in the three ODIs against Australia. It is the only format in which the batters are still active. While there are swirling rumors that the Australia series could be the last of the Kohli-Rohit duo, neither have they spoken on the matter, nor have the selectors.
