Former Kolkata Knight Riders batter Manoj Tiwary believes that Rohit Sharma deserves a proper farewell rather than announcing his retirement through social media.
Indian captain Rohit Sharma announced his retirement from Test cricket on July 8, 2025, at 7:29 PM via Instagram. He mentioned that he will continue to represent India in One Day Internationals (ODIs). Tiwary feels that Sharma, who has an impressive record as a leader, should leave the Test format with a fitting send-off.
"If Rohit Sharma had retired not on social media but on the field after playing, it would have been a more appropriate farewell. It would have felt better for all of us as well," Tiwary told Cricbuzz. He added, "Just look at his record as a Test captain—it's very good. He's won 12 Tests, lost 9, and drawn 3. So there's no doubt about his solid success rate."
Rohit Sharma had a remarkable career in Test cricket, scoring over 4,301 runs in 67 matches at an average of 40.23, including 12 centuries. He also led India to their second World Test Championship final and has an excellent record as captain.

At 38 years old, Rohit promised to work hard together with his team to defeat England during a recent appearance in a video with Michael Clarke. However, developing stories regarding the tour of England may have influenced his decision to retire from the longer format.
Rohit Sharma previously retired from T20 Internationals after winning the T20 World Cup in 2024. He now announced his retirement from Test cricket, while his ODI retirement could come after the 2027 World Cup, which he is keen to win as captain for India.
