Delhi Capitals (DC) finally breached fortress Cheapuk after a wait of 15 years, as they defeated Chennai Super Kings (CSK) for just the third time in Chepauk by 25 runs. DC's spin twins Vipraj Nigam and Kuldeep Yadav were outstanding with ball in hand as they conceded a combined 57 runs in eight overs. It was here, where the CSK batters lost the plot, as none of their batters could target Kuldeep and Nigam.
Such was the duo's domination that skipper Axar Patel came to bowl in the 17th over. CSK's chase began on an inauspicious note as they lost Rachin Ravindra (3), and Ruturaj Gaikwad (5) runs cheaply. CSK could only score 46 runs in the power play and lost the game there. To rub salts into the wounds, Nigam and Kuldeep exploited the Cheapuk surface fully by bowling a tight lines and length. Each of the CSK batters struggled for timing, as DC spinners were simply phenomenal in the middle phase of the innings.
DC breach fortress Chepauk, CSK handed third successive loss
DC's third win on the trot has catapulted them to first position in the points table. They have simply looked solid with both bat and bowl in hand. Despite Faf du Plessis not playing, DC adapted well by sending Rahul up the order, as he top-scored with a brilliant (77) runs.
As Ravi Shastri pointed out in the commentary, CSK batters did not even make an attempt to chase this 184-run target. Not even one batter could strike above 150. This is a third successive loss for CSK, and second straight loss at Chepauk in IPL 2025 season.
MS Dhoni entertained CSK fans at Cheapuk by striking some lusty blows in the back end of the innings. However, it came all too late in the run chase.
