Gujarat Titans pacer Ishant Sharma was fined 25 percent of his match fees and handed one demerit point for breaching IPL's code of conduct. The Titans, however, registered a thumping win over SRH by seven wickets.
Ishant had had a tough start to IPL 2025. So far in the tournament, he has remained wicketless besides being expensive. In three appearances so far, he went wicketless for 97 runs. Of those, 53 runs were conceded in the match against Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Hyderabad.
Now, BCCI's fine for breach of conduct has added to his pressure in the remaining games. Ishant, being an experienced pacer, should be able to make a comeback. Meanwhile, GT's thumping win has lifted them to the second position on the IPL 2025 points table
Ishant Sharma Agreed To His Code Of Conduct Breach
The BCCI has confirmed the fine on Ishant Sharma via a statement after the match. This was his first breach in this edition of the IPL. Ishant breached IPL's Article 2.2, which relates to "abuse of cricket equipment or clothing, ground equipment or fixtures and fittings during a match." The veteran pacer admitted to it and was accordingly sanctioned by match referee Javagal Srinath.
"Ishant admitted to the Level 1 offence under Article 2.2 and accepted the Match Referee’s sanction. For Level 1 breaches of the Code of Conduct, the Match Referee’s decision is final and binding," the IPL media release read.
Titans Thump Sunrisers In Latest Win
Meanwhile, the Titans registered their third win in four games in the tournament so far. They started with a loss to Punjab Kings. However, since then they have registered three consecutive victories.
Against SRH, Mohammed Siraj took four wickets to rattle the much-famed Hyderabad batting lineup. He registered his best figures in the IPL (4 wickets for 17 runs) as SRH was restricted to 152 runs for 8 wickets. GT coasted to victory on the back of skipper Shubman Gill's unbeaten 61-run knock. Washington Sundar, playing his first match for the Titans, scored 49 runs off 29 balls and added a 90-run stand with Gill to set the platform for GT's win. Sherfane Rutherford then scored an unbeaten 35 runs off 16 balls to seal the match in just 16.4 overs. Meanwhile, Siraj now has nine wickets from four matches and is second on the Purple Cap list.
