MS Dhoni has found himself in the middle of some criticism after showing no intent with the bat in this edition of the IPL so far. CSK's loss to DC with MS Dhoni staying unbeaten has stirred up talks against him.
MSD has batted at seven or lower in the first four matches for CSK. Against RCB, he batted at number nine. Against RR, he batted at number seven and scored 16 runs off 11 balls. Chennai required 20 runs to win in the final over, but Sandeep Sharma denied Dhoni the glory.
Against Delhi Capitals, MS Dhoni walked out to bat at number seven with CSK requiring over 100 runs in the final 10 overs. He scored 30 runs off 26 balls at a strike rate of just 115. Dhoni's lack of intent to hit the big sixes in the final overs left cricket experts surprised. CSK lost the match by 25 runs to DC.
He Should Have Left A Long Back: Rashid Latif On MS Dhoni
With CSK languishing at ninth on the points table after three consecutive losses, former Pakistan skipper Rashid Latif has taken a dig at the former CSK skipper. He said that Dhoni should have retired earlier, by the age of 35.
“He should have left a long while back, a wicket-keeper's age is usually 35, I am an example of this. If I was on TV then I am a performer and when I don't do it at a high level then my reputation will come down. Even if you have done it for 15 years, the younger generations will not be impressed,” Latif told IANS.
Latif further said that CSK choosing Dhoni over the team 'is unfair to the game of cricket.' He said that Dhoni could not help India win the 2019 ODI World Cup, and the franchise is doing the same by playing MS Dhoni with CSK losing matches.
“His playing did not benefit his team in 2019 (ODI World Cup) as well, they should have understood then. If you are choosing the team over one player then it is unfair to the game which is why they are getting trolled. I saw 2-3 games and the crowd gets very loud but CSK need points right now, they are at the bottom of the table and if the reason is only one or two players then you should realise the need of the hour" Latif added.
Meanwhile, MS Dhoni in a recent podcast said that he has no intentions of retiring from the league as of now.
