Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar has announced a cash award of INR 10 lakh for Rajasthan Royals (RR) opener Vaibhav Suryavanshi after he etched his name into the record books by smashing the second-fastest Indian Premier League (IPL 2025) century. Suryavanshi tore apart the Gujarat Titans (GT) bowling attack on Monday, April 28, at the Sawai Mansingh Stadium in Jaipur. He brought up his century in just 35 balls, thus becoming IPL's youngest-ever century-maker at the age of 14 years.
Nitish Kumar took to X to announce the cash award on Tuesday, April 29, and wrote, “Congratulations and best wishes to Vaibhav Suryavanshi of Bihar, who became the youngest player (14 years) to score a century in the history of IPL. He has become a new hope for Indian cricket as a result of his hard work and talent. Everyone is proud of him. I met Mr Vaibhav Suryavanshi and his father in 2024, and at that time, I wished him a bright future.
After his brilliant performance in IPL, I also congratulated him over the phone. Vaibhav Suryavanshi, a young cricketer from Bihar, will also be given prize money of ₹10 lakh by the state government. I wish that Vaibhav creates new records for the Indian team in the future and brings glory to the country,”
Vaibhav Suryavanshi's blazing century sinks Gujarat Titans
Vaibhav Suryavashi's stunning assault on one of the IPL 2025 season's better bowling attacks left everyone stunned. GT's bowling attack comprised Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Siraj, Rashid Khan, and Sai Kishore. However, the young RR opener did not show any signs of nervousness as he completely decimated the GT attack and made a mockery of the 210-run target set by GT. Suryavanshi's 35-ball 101 helped RR chase the target down with 25 balls to spare.
In his 101 runs, the 14-year-old struck 11 sixes and seven fours. Such was his brutal assault that Yashasvi Jaiswal became a second fiddle, and nobody noticed that the southpaw struck his runs at a strike rate above 150.
