It Was Knocking Leg Stump Off - Sunil Gavaskar

Meanwhile, the decision concerning Joe Root happened in the 38th over of England's second innings. The ball came back in sharply after pitching and thudded into his pads. Though the pitched well outside off stump, the impact was on the line of the stumps.

The appeal was turned down by umpire Paul Reiffel and then Shubman Gill took the DRS. The replays showed that the ball would have just gone onto kiss leg stump.

Meanwhile, Sunil Gavakar came up with a diferent opinion regarding the decision. He said that since the ball hit Root's pad in line of the stumps, the ball would have gone onto hit the middle-leg or the leg stump and not just kiss the stumps.

"You're saying it was going to kiss the leg stump? There's no way. It was knocking the leg stump off. The impact was between off and middle stump and you are saying that it is going to miss the leg stump? No way that the ball is going to move that much. The only good thing is that India have not lost the review," Gavaskar said on Sony Sports.
Former England batter Jonathan Trott who was commentating on air for Sky Sports said that he was "flabbergasted" by the umpire's decision".
"I am flabbergasted. Having looked at that replay, I thought it was crashing into the inside part of the leg stump. Watching it in real time, I couldn't believe it was missing," former England batter Jonathan Trott added on air.
