A significant meeting of the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) is scheduled to address important matters about the national team and domestic competitions.
One of the main points on the agenda is the future of the Bangladesh Premier League (BPL), with discussions around privatizing the tournament to streamline the franchise league's operations.. A total of five companies are currently in contention to acquire the rights.
BCB Weighs BPL Privatization with Two Competing Models
The board is considering two possible models: one where the selected firm acts solely as a service provider, and another where it takes full responsibility for executing the league. While the second model promises greater financial returns, it has raised concerns over potential betting risks and governance issues, leaving the board divided ahead of the decision..
According to The Daily Star, BPL Governing Council Chairman Mahbub Anam confirmed the developments, stating that the final decision now rests with the board.
"We expect the board to approve the sports management company on August 9. Once that's done, we can seek board approval on the model for hosting the BPL."

Board Split on BPL Model as Key Meeting Looms
However, sources indicate that while most board members favor the first option the service-provider model a few are still pushing for the second, more financially lucrative model. The final call is expected to be made during today’s meeting.

In addition to the BPL discussions, the agenda also includes domestic cricket scheduling, financial matters, and a report from the Anti-Corruption Commission. Board members are expected to hold informal talks an hour before the official session to align on key positions.
The outcome of this meeting could significantly shape the future of Bangladesh’s premier T20 league and future of the domestic competitions.
