The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) is planning to hire an external agency to check the credentials of young cricketers as a part of its plan to curb the age fraud.
As per a Cricbuzz report, the board has issued a Request for Proposal (RFP) for agencies with proven experience in background checks. The selected agency will verify documents and conduct age checks for players entering the system.
The appointment is expected by the end of August, with verification work starting soon after. Normally, these checks are completed in July and August, but this year, the process could stretch into September due to the new appointment.
How the Age Verification Process Works?
The BCCI first examines documents such as birth certificates and other identification proofs. Then, it conducts a bone test using the Tanner-Whitehouse 3 (TW3) method to estimate the player’s age medically.
These checks are usually done for boys at the Under-16 level and girls at the Under-15 level. Around 40-50 players in each category from every state are tested to ensure over-age players are screened early.
Requirements for Bidding Agencies
Agencies bidding for the job must have at least three years of experience in background verification for reputed organisations. They should be able to operate across all states and Union Territories and handle both physical and digital checks.
It must also be able to verify different types of documents.
