261 Indian Premier League 2025 (IPL 2025) jerseys worth ₹6.52 lakh were stolen from the BCCI office at the Wankhede Stadium. The stolen jerseys were discovered missing during a recent stock audit. In the CCTV footage, officials saw a security guard leaving with a large box.
The accused, 40-year-old Farooque Aslam Khan, was working as a security guard at the stadium. As reported by The Times of India, he allegedly stole the jerseys over time and sold them to an online dealer based in Haryana. Each jersey was priced at around ₹2,500.
Police said Khan confessed to selling the jerseys to fund his gambling addiction. He got in touch with the buyer on social media and sent the jerseys via courier. Only 50 jerseys have been recovered so far.

How the Theft Was Discovered?
The incident happened on June 13 but remained unnoticed until the BCCI carried out an internal audit. Officials found discrepancies in the storeroom inventory. When they reviewed CCTV footage, they saw Khan carrying a cardboard box out of the premises.
The BCCI filed an official complaint at the Marine Drive police station on July 17. Hemang Bharat Kumar Amin, a BCCI staff member, registered the case. Following this, police arrested Khan and started questioning him about the missing items
"The guard claims he haggled a bit with the online dealer, but he hasn't yet specified how much he got for the deal," a police source said as quoted to TOI.
So far, only 50 of the 261 IPL 2025 jerseys have been recovered. The security guard claimed the money was transferred directly into his bank account and he subsequently lost it through gambling. Police are now verifying his bank account details.
"He [the guard] claims he lost it all to online gambling," the source added.
Dealer Claims He Didn’t Know Jerseys Were Stolen
The jerseys were sold to a man in Haryana, who has now been summoned for questioning. According to police, the dealer told them he thought the jerseys were part of a stock clearance due to renovation work at the office.
"The online dealer says he was not aware that the jerseys had been stolen."
"The guard had told the man in Haryana that the jerseys were part of a stock clearance sale due to renovation work that was going on at the office," the source stated.
An FIR has been filed under Section 306 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023. The investigation is ongoing.
